How to get here: from Chile:

By Air:

From Santiago there are several daily flights to the Araucania Airport of Temuco, located in Freire, 20 kms from the regional capital of Temuco. It is an hour drive on Route 5 to Villarica, and in total a two hour drive to our Reserve.
In the summer (between December and February), it is also possible to fly to Pucon, which is a bit closer, but there are fewer flights. There are buses, transfers, and taxis from the airport to Villarica.

How to get here: from Argentina:

By Air:

There are flights from Buenos Aires to the Chapelco (CPC) airport in San Martín de los Andes, located on Route RN 234 between San Martin de los Andes (23 km) and Junín de los Andes.

Another option is to arrive via S. Carlos de Bariloche (BRC), which is 170 km from San Martín. There are buses and transfers that connect the two cities.

  • Surrounded by native forests (coigues, raulí, tepa, and mañío), among practically year-round green fields, which are covered in wildflowers in the summers, blessed by pristine lakes within forests of lenga (nothofagus pumilio) and ñirre (nothofagus antartica) trees, crystalline rivers with exuberant waterfalls, is La Frontera Nature Reserve and Ecolodge. We are located 9.3 km past the town of Liquiñe, (famous for having the highest concentration of hot springs in South America) and 3kms from the Hipólito Muñoz and Carranco hotsprings. The Reserve is located at Km. 67.8 on International Route 201, and occupies the last piece of land on the Chilean side of the border (the first if coming from Argentina).
In this Nature Reserve you can easily see innumerable birds, such as the chucao (scelorchilus rubecula), the great black woodpecker (campephilus magellanicus), bandurrias (theristicus melanopis) and colorful parrots (choroy parrot). With some luck, it is also possible to glimpse the shy pudu (pudu puda or mephistophiles), a red deer (cervus elaphus), or a puma (puma concolor).

Liquiñe is part of the Panguipulli municipality, in the Rivers Region (XIV) and is part of the Valdivia province of Chile. Included in the Biosphere Reserve since 2007, this place forms a part of the Patagonian Andean ecosystem, which is also known as a temperate rainforest or Valdivian rainforest.
